Could it really be January with all this lovely warm weather? I don't mind it at all! Recently got back into the studio to start the inventory for this year and applying to the shows. Felt good to take a break and feels great to be back into the paint again.

Balance is the goal for this year. So, taking my time and slowly building up to the fast furry of it all is key. Last year I was painting to keep up at break neck speed. Fresh new ideas and work are emerging and I think I will be able to enjoy it more this year.

This is the New Store, LP Designs, in the Short North! My lovely friend, Leslie Pannelle, owns the shop. It's full of original art, Lots by Moi, fun gifts, and fabulous home furnishings, made by some truly talented people. This weekends Holiday Hop should be wonderful! The forecast says cold, but the SUNSHINE will be out. It's always the best Hop of the season, I think it puts you in the holiday mood for sure.
I am looking forward to being able to enjoy the evening without the pressure of a show... aaahhhh,,, relaxation. Hope to see you there!

Sitting by the fire and uploading work into the Etsy Shop for easy peasy shopping! Right now there are pendants, prints, and coasters in the shop and I am hoping to get quite a few paintings, canvas bags and ornaments up today.

My parents with me in Atlanta,,,, aren't they adorable?

So, very grateful for all the wonderful new friends I have met this side of the Mississippi this summer. Also, I could not have made it through without my family and friends traveling with me, listening to my joys and pains. Just so very grateful for everything right now. Thank you is such a small word and does not seem to be enough.

New art will be posted on the ETSY link in mid October. One more big show, then I will be listing some fun work. Just finished St. James Art Show in Louisville and feeling so inspired to get busy with some new creations.

Until then, Hug someone and tell them you love them. :)

From my yoga teacher this morning, "where your gaze goes, intention flows"... True that!

It's a playful journey kind of day in the studio... jazz is playing softly in the background, dogs have been walked and are sleeping outside the door, I can hear them breathing.... sun is shining and giving a warm inviting glow to the day outside, sunbeams stream inside... feeling relaxed and flowing with the day. (smile, sigh)

Look at this face... I swear he's laughing. My best friend for 14 years. He's had a bug the last few days, so of course I have been sleeping with one eye open and stuck to his side all day long. Appetite is back, and our trips outside to do his business look better too.

In the middle of all this, painting for 2 shows this weekend, commissions to get out, laundry, and keeping up with all the other daily duties. I must say, I am exhausted. I don't know how the ladies with kiddos do it. I really don't. Kuddos to you strong women keeping it going.

Feeling extreme gratitude for his recovery and health in general. We do take that for granted don't we? I know I do.

This is the whirlwind I have been living in the last month.... Buckle up!

East Lansing, MI

The Art Festivals have been wonderful this season. So much inspiration in new places. A lot of work, don't get me wrong, there have been tears and deadlines and traveling and the joys of meeting some wonderful new artists, clients, and making friends along the way. These are some recent set ups since May. Still a lot more shows coming up. I will be back in the Cleveland area this weekend at the Willoughby Art Festival, then Columbus, then off to Syracuse NY the end of the month.

LOVE her big bright paintings!! I do have one in my studio now. Total Love. And Shelley is just as kind, sweet, bright, and fun as her paintings. This was at Easton in Columbus, but, she lives in the Cleveland area, so check her out.

Teresa Morbitzer, designer and owner of Vintage Vamp jewelry. Her amazing work is designed using vintage pieces and I have to say, I love every peice of hers I have. I love spending time with her in her amazing studio. It's above and old carriage house in German Village where she holds open houses a couple times a year. You have to check out her website and make sure to find where she is.

I have admired Jurate (Yura) Phillips vibrant paintings for a couple years now and had the pleasure of meeting her this season. She will be showing at Art on the Lawn in Yellow Springs this August, and I think I will indulge in some of her work this year. You can feel good energy coming from her and her work!

Husseim Saidi, I just love this boy. Look at that smile. It's as infectious as his work. I have seen him at big shows in the past, been drawn to his work and met him in East Lansing this year. Joe and I had dinner with him and his friend and we laughed the entire night. Check out his website because he hails from the East Coast and travels everywhere!

Susan Kline is the most amazing, down to earth, talented artist! Her work just makes me smile and so does she! Bright & Fun & Soulful. There is love in everything she does. Have you ever had someone that you admire tell you they like your work?! Really? Me? LOL! Her work inspires and reminds me to be happy. Life is too short to take seriously. Thank goodness I met her this year. I have called upon her during my crazy creative moments and she is right there with kindness, laughter and reassurance. I think this woman is an angel. She does quite a few shows and a lot of traveling too. Make sure you say HI if you see her.

Paul Tepper a new friend from the shows! He lives in the Columbus area and will be doing more shows. What I like about Paul ( and the other artists ) is how approachable and fun he is. We were beside each other at Easton this year and I could hear him laugh all day.

Now I am off to get my hands in the paint. Here I go again.

Back from New Orleans, and this is a current work in progress, inspired by Audoubon Park. Spent a morning walking under the oak trees, past fountains, over bridges, and watching the boys run in 5K.

New backgrounds that are getting prepped for East Lansing Art Festival this weekend.

So, I am playing with fabric and incorporating paint too... This could be a
class soon... I like the vintage chic look that is coming through. All the fabric is so inspiring with the flowers, colors and designs. I am in love with the fabric that has text on it too. I am thinking birds out of fabric and on the stretched canvas through the hoops. Can't wait to see what happens, as always, I am sure something completely different than what I am visioning.

Recent snow day with two of my favorite girls. So, course we spent the day painting, playing, eating, laughing and creating.

Cork and Canvas Classes are keeping me super busy. Here's some recent photos!

Teaching classes, so AMAZING and FUN and INSPIRING. Have meant some wonderful ladies in these classes. Do you realize the amazing energy that comes from a group of women? It leaves me smiling and exhausted.

Working on new Art for this Festival Season,,, as soon as I have confirmed dates, I will post those. As if it isn't enough to DO the work, then there is the picture taking, editing, uploading to on line applications, printing for paper applications, oh, then the printer runs out of ink. Running running running. Being true to the stereotype artist nature, I do wait until there is a looming deadline though. I mean, WHY rush?!

Working on new booth shots and displays on the driveway. Yes, the neighbors probably think I'm crazy! I mean it was only 35 degrees when I did this. But, when the sun is shining you have to take advantage of it!

I am searching for inspiration, tired, scared of ruining something, pushing forward looking for something new in the paint, another muse to inspire me. I need a fresh perspective. Going to keep on going with this.

Everyday my commitment is to the Art Journal. As much as I love to paint, do you know it's like exercise? It feels great when I'm done, but, I hate getting started. Now I feel it right under the surface... Something is coming up. It's in my dreams too.. I am having the most vivid dreams lately. Peaceful, vivid, and I have no idea what they mean.

I was thrilled to find this lovely picture taken by the North Market photographer from the Holiday show I did there. I was lucky enough to be in front of a huge mural, what a great backdrop for me!

I love the industrial feel of the North Market, if you haven't been there you must go. The food is amazing and the people are so kind and seem to LOVE what they are doing.

I am feeling inspired!

Happy New Year! I have been busy as a bee over here. Many commissions ( thank you ) before the holidays to get done. My own work for family and the open house to be done. I did manage to enjoy the holidays with family and friends, now I am breathing again. Just finished this sign for Meg's new Massage Therapy studio. I can't wait to see her new space. It takes so much courage to venture out and follow your passion. Wishing her so much success and love.

Right now I am taking the time to renew and recharge. Playing in a new art class with friends, taking time to play in the studio without thinking about sales or shows. Seeing where it all goes and enjoying the journey.

Thank you to EVERYONE who came out to the First Annual Holiday Open House at the Studio. The first night was amazing and it was so fun to see old friends. What a relaxing evening for me to be able to host a "show" in my studio. Much less stress than traveling and setting up a tent. Ok, there was a little stress getting the studio clean, but, definately worth it!

A couple Updates:

1. There is still plenty of original artwork and I am really in love with a few new works. Don't forget, everything is still 20% off this Tuesday night, December 14th, at my studio, from 6-9.

2. Right now I am working on a couple commissions for the holidays, but, I will be listing some new work on ETSY this week and promise that if you order by Friday I will ship it ASAP for the holidays. As always, free shipping online.

3. If you live in the Dayton area, I will be gallery sitting this Friday, December 17th, at Village Artisans. It's 3rd Friday, The HOLIDAY HOP, and there will be plenty of good things happening in the Village. Free found art is back for the holidays, and you know that means you can walk away with the art you find. Cocktails and Snacks will be served from 6-9 at Village Artisans.

So, I'm putting it out there,,, get ready because it's time for Street Fair in Yellow Springs! It only comes twice a year and this one is going to be amazing! Let's face it, any day or Street Fair day in Yellow Springs is a good day. In June we had a tiny bit of rain and then it got sticky. Not the case this weekend!

Sunny and perfect fall weather to stroll the over 200 vendor booths, have a cocktail and listen to some music, watch the belly dancers stroll by.

I promise, it's gonna be a good day!

As Always my booth will be right in front of the Wind's Wine Shop and I am so excited about the new work I have for October. Art Art Art, Messanger Bags, Pendants, and Some fun, textured wood work.

Something about the cooler weather makes me want to work with fabric, texture, thread, and yarn. Here is a sneak peak of what I am working on for the upcoming Yellow Springs Street Fair.

In addition to all the fun paintings I will have Messanger Bags with my images! Fun!! I am so excited! I made a protype for myself about a month ago and have been getting so many compliments, which, no matter what, always makes you feel good. They are fun, whimsical and I love using mine! My laptop slides right into the larger one, and I really love that.

I can't wait to get them all together and finished up and have them available for the festival.

waaaannnnna see what free found art looks like? hmmm, if you were in Yellow Springs last month for Third Friday you might have walked by this purple bench and seen this little blue painting... You could have taken it home and hung it on your wall. Someone did, but, you would be amazed at how many people walked by this without seeing it.

Don't worry, weather permitting, Free Found Art is available by the JAFA Girls, every Third Friday in Yellow Springs. Generally you will find the art between 5 -9. So look up, look down, look straight ahead, look in trees. It's generally part of the landscape. It always has something on the back indicating it's Jafa Girl or Free.

Street Fair was another wonderful day and I am so Grateful to everyone who came out, to new friends, and those who helped out during the day. I truly could not do it all by myself and quite honestly, I don't want to! I love being able to see so many friends all day long! Dave Greer and the Jazz Stompers set up again, and I love the Music they bring!
To be able to enjoy the energy of it all is such a blessing!

SPRAY PAINT IS FUUUUUNNNN!!! I have seen so many lovelies play with spray paint and I have always wanted to. Today was that day! You hardly have to wait at all for light layers to dry and can get backgrounds done so QUICKLY!

I will be painting something over these, have ideas, lots of ideas, getting started on them tonight!

ALSO,,,, new Pendants! Super EXCITED about these. Pendants with prints of my original artwork. I will upload them on ETSY soon and will also have them at the festivals this summer!

Feeling very blessed these days. Not so much of a let down after the holidays that I usually have trouble dealing with. After closing NOLAA Gallery's physical location last year, I drifted a bit and really felt lost. It was more of an emotional struggle than I thought it would be. Definately the right thing to do, no regrets. I have a feeling, it's going to be a good year.

Many good things are happening and brewing over here. Little things, BIG things... it's all about the journey. Thank you for being a part of it and allowing me to be a small part of yours. We are all in this together.

This is almost all of a new commissioned piece for a dear friend. The 4 trees represent the family. The small one on the left is the hope for a boy... there is some blue in the tree, and the small one on the right represents the girl who is here, there is some lavender in this tree.

I listened to a lot of jazz/ love themed songs out of New Orleans ( www.wwoz.org ) to keep the mood right. Absolutely I enjoyed doing this and putting lots of love into as well.

The dad, who I have yet to meet, hopefully one day, is a lover of Autumn in Ohio. I actually started this in November, but was forcing it and ended up painting over it. Underneath what you see is a new underpainting.... Just some play with lines, hearts, shapes and positive words. Then with a deep breath and some prayful words,, I was off and really enjoyed this!

Here we go!!! Yellow Springs Street Fair Pictures! Oh what a day filled with art, music, friends, old and new! Thank you to everyone who came out and said hello. I am so Grateful for the day we had. Truly Thankful, Grateful & Filled with Joy for what I do.

Now Hanging at the Market at Serendip, Powell, Ohio. I am so excited to hang among so many talented artists of every media. So, I will be shop sitting a couple days a month and I am glad to get back to some of my Columbus roots!

This weekend I will be in the Oregon Arts District, Dayton, Ohio.
Their Street Festival is Saturday from 10-6, Looks like the weather is going to fabulous.

I am listening to jazz, go figure, on the song Smile came on. So many people have renditions and I love them all.

Just been painting away for the Gallery and for the few Festivals I am participating int this summer. It has been a blessed Summer with Friends, Family, and an Art Income that has been Sustaining! Thank you Jesus, Life is Good.

I think that is very fitting for the new series of bending houses, 3 are uploaded in Etsy, and I am doing more for the gallery and the next festival in a week. There is a simplicity and innocence about them, that I just love. I never know how things will turn out, until they turn out!

joe suprised me with a new camera and now I don't have to take pics with my cell phone anymore! YEAH!

DO you notice how things are not what they appear to be most of the time?

how is this puff ball that's floating in the pool looks so elegant in it's shadow? like a flower, but at first glance it's just a puff of white? it just made me think how quick I can be to judge and pass over things with just a glance and quick judgement, instead of taking the time to look deeper and see something more. not getting too philosophical,, but , it did make me wonder.

geninne does a fabulous stamp carving tutorial, and I took the time to carve a bit today for some backgrounds.

I was able to get these yummy erasers at the Dollar Tree, the one where EVERYTHING is $1.oo! I love that place! 3 to a pack, 1 buck, can't beat that!

Not sure what's going to happen here, but I do have Art on the Lawn I am getting ready for in Yellow Springs. AUGUST 8th, for all you central Ohioans... come for some great art, music and food! How LUCKY was I that part of the David Greer Jazz Band set up right across from my booth at the Street Fair in Yellow Springs? What goes better with NOLAA Gallery than New Orleans Jazz Music?! I have to say, I cried a little,,, for real, that music takes me to a place that I think I experienced in a different life. And to top it off, friends I have been to NOLA with were there and it just made it feel like Jazz Fest all over. Ok, I am emotional and sappy about it for sure, but do check out their albums. I believe they play quite frequently in Dayton.

It's been awhile, I have been missing in action. So many changes, personally, professionally. That's the only constant in life, Change.
It's Spring, that means Rebirth, and it is showing in the new art that is emerging too.

New Display at Village Artisans, Yellow Springs

I needed to move forward with the Gallery, the next step was to join a local artisan group, Village Artisans. NOLAA Gallery, still exists within this talented group. Still on the same block, just around the corner. S0 many factors played into this decision. Spiritually, Emotionally, running your own business takes alot away, as well as gives you so much. It took so much time away from my family, friends, relationships needed to be nurtured and tended to more. People were suffering, I was suffering. It also gave. It gave me new experiences, new friends, new love for art, a richer, deeper experience with art.

I could never have learned in a Masters Business class what I learned in King's Yard.

It was time for the change, and I am so excited. I feel lighter, fresh, filling up with new creativity, new art. All that's good is getting better.

This outside my Studio window becomes....

THIS!

painted paper from an old book, that I was using just to tape off spaces on a painted background, became part of the painting. A little bird with the flowers. There are red berries on the tree those birds are sitting in. The picture doesn't show it that well. The backround is red and then I painted over it with shapes and just let it speak to where it wanted to go.

I always like how music and art feed each other. How what I listen to plays into what I am painting or what I may paint. So many times I will write the song that I was listening to on the back of a painting and tell the story about it to who purchases it at the gallery and the funny thing is, they can usually relate and are captured by that. The experience and soul of the painting makes it so much more personal for them. Let's face it, no one really wakes up in the morning and says, TODAY, I will buy art! At least not the tourists that come to Yellow Springs to see the hippies.

I am just lucky and grateful when someone stumbles on the gallery and takes the time to share in the journey of this artist.

So, back to the music! We are lucky enough to have such great friends who gave us BlueGrass concert tickets for christmas, and we all went last saturday! Great times, music and friends!

Three Little Birds Sat on My Window

I have a new series of Paintings hanging at Williams Restaurant in Yellow Springs. Thank you so much to everyone who purchased the previous paintings.

I hope you are enjoying them as much as I love creating them.

This new series has a lot of birds and trees, probably b/c that is what I look at outside my window everyday in the art studio at home.. Trees, snow, birds, people walking dogs, kids riding bikes.

I feel so blessed in the mornings to watch the sunrise and colors change across the sky. I always feel like a kid and still yell for my husband to come see it too!

journal pages and YUMMY colors

I have started journaling again since the holidays are over, kinda a ReSet button. I don't do a lot of words, but I love quotes. The Left side of the journal page with the upside down tree reads, Embrace Uncertainty.
The right side reads, Love is the Center of the Universe.
Both I heard Deepak Chopra say. I love listening to him, his voice is soft and I could listen all day.
He gets up at 4 am every day to meditate for 2 hours then goes to the gym!

ok, aren't these colors just DELICIOUS!? They are Metallic Watercolors that a friend gave me over the holidays! Perfect. She just knows how much I love color and Sparkle is always fabulous. Can't wait to dive into these tonight. NOT so sure how they would work on the straight Journal paper... ? ANy thoughts out there? Art teacher friends, Michelle? Connie? Should I use watercolor paper and adhere it in the journal pages?

i need to revisit some old friends, older works of mine and if I am lucky, I have pictures. I wasn't so good at documenting my work a couple years ago.

Miss Dee Tagged me... And It Made me THINK.. What Do I do to Keep My Mind and Life Balanced every day.
Some things are Easy...
1. Paint or Create something! I try to get my hands in it everyday.
2. Keep Good Company.. Friends in life and Bloggers like Dee who have become friends.
3. Pray.
4. Spend Time with my dogs. A good walk or throwing the toys does wonders for me.
5. ummmm.... Exercise... ok, not as much now as it is COLD out! But, the intention is there everday! ;)

Oh my, it's here. Can you feel the hustle and bustle yet? I

am taking time to sit by the fire and check out our tree.

I did do some sketches for a client today, for a christmas commission. I should be painting right now,,, But there is time for that later. Right now is about comfort and warmth.

So much to do, but taking the time to enjoy it this year and being grateful everyday for the warmth of our home, the love of family and friends, and joy of being able to live a life doing what I love to do, create.

So Thankful tonight.

Free Flowing

This was so freakin' fun to do! It went home with a lovely couple from West Virgina, for their daughter. They had requsted the colors and flowers from a different, smaller work I had done. This was much larger, 24 x 30, and thank you to miss corrine, aka, jafabrit, for covering the gallery so I could get run to get a larger canvas!
I am so grateful to know you as an artist and to call you friend!

I used palette knife for much of the flowers and it was still wet when they put it in the car! They didn't mind though!

If you were around NOLAA gallery in Yellow Springs last weekend, you might have found some fun hidden and FREE Art around town. In the spirit of Day of the Dead and Halloween, art was waiting to be found.
I know a couple college students from Wright State were happy happy happy when they found a painted record!
How great for a poor college student to find something cool and free!
